The Garden

October 2006

The raised vegetable beds were made on a concrete drive at the back of the house, which sloped down to the back alley. Access was by two large wooden gates, which were pretty much falling off their hinges, and a smaller gate which wasn't in much better nick. So I had the whole lot ripped out and replaced with a new personnel gate, a nice solid brick wall (couldn't get reclaimed brick unfortunately), and a new log store.

The log store has a corrugated plastic roof to let light through to the veg beds, and has a huge capacity. The picture here shows it with around 33 sacks of logs - enough for 3 or 4 weeks supply in the winter. As you can see, there is plenty of space left, and the structure could probably hold a good couple of months' supply if I used it all for logs. But it's a handy space for some other stuff too, like my bike, the barbecue, spare wheels for the mini etc.
